It's In The Air We Breathe
In 1977 a 34 year old, previously healthy military navigator on-duty in a Lockheed C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft suddenly felt very ill, so much so that he became incapacitated. It turned out that he and the other crew members had experienced acute intoxication following inhalation of vaporized lubricating oil which had contaminated the breathing air in the cockpit... article published in the KAPERS Swiss Cabin Crew Union's magazine - HERE

Pilots and crew from five airlines launch legal battles to make cabin air safe to breathe: what is at stake?
When toxins are released into the environment by any other industry, or cancerogenic, endocrine disrupting fumes detected in public buildings, trained professionals in hazmat suits instantly crawl all over the hastily closed-off sites in question, testing the air taking samples with specialised equipment. Not so in aviation. Toxic gas-type fume emissions occur daily in aircraft. TLE reports April 20th 2019

SALON reports: "26 airline mechanics at both Southwest and American Airlines, all of whom shared anecdotes about being pressured not to report potential safety problems by management. Specifically, the mechanics told CBS that airline management pushed them to overlook safety problems, which they protested. In response, they said they have had to endure threats and intimidation tactics by supervisors for reporting safety concerns, all for the sake of getting aircrafts back into service faster. Their claims, as noted by CBS, had been backed up by Federal Aviation Administration whistleblower complaints."©source SALON
