Translation: KLM-stewardess fights against lay off.

‘Sick from nerve gas’
by: Paul Eldering

Stewardess Evelyn van den Heuvel (32) from Berkel en Rodenrijs has become seriously ill from nerve gasses on board of KLM aircraft. Still her contract was terminated with immediate effect by KLM.
She’s not accepting this fact, as was made clear in the Amsterdam courtroom. Van den Heuveln is suing her employer for the district-court judge because, even after years of pleading and problems, they won’t recognize her complaints.
“According to the company physician she’s not ill. KLM tried everything to keep her within the company and have her do substitute activities, but unfortunately that hasn’t worked out. The illness she claims to have, hasn’t been scientifically proved formally” so say the KLM advocates, councils, lawyers and attorneys.

Medical doctor and former KLM pilot Michel Mulder, who is researching this so called ‘aerotoxic syndrome’, claims the opposite. “According to new data approximately 70 pilots, 500 cabin crew and 35.000 passengers who are physically prone to the toxic TCP fumes, suffer chronically from this. Some will die because of it. Pilots become sick in the cockpit.”
According to Mulder, the toxins come from the with oil polluted outside air which is drawn in to the cabin and cockpit by the airplanes’ engines. “Only new aircraft like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, have implemented a new technology to refresh the cabin air.”
Van den Heuvel, who prefers to continue to work as cabin crew, logically requested to be put to work mainly on the ‘clean’ KLM aircraft, if need be in combination with work on the ground. This hasn’t been remunerated and that’s what we’re objecting to, because she’s handled ‘in good faith’, tells her advocate/counsel/lawyer/attorney Bakker to the judge who will cast the verdict on February 8. A settlement between both parties didn’t seem attainable.

In the meantime, Van den Heuvel suffers from different serious symptoms/complaints: “extreme tiredness, failure of limb functioning, nausea, terrible headaches, loss of concentration, forgetfulness, difficulties focusing and planning. I can’t work two days in a row anymore. I can forget about ever getting another job. In fact I got disabled because of my work for KLM.”
According to Mulder she’s sustained permanent damage, even though she’s not flying anymore. “That’s what we’re holding KLM liable for.” so says advocate/lawyer/attorney.
